Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector Drives Standardization on Synopsys Verification Platform; VCS and Vera Seen as Key Technologies to Address Functional Verification Complexity
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24, 2003--Synopsys,
Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), the world leader in integrated circuit (IC) design
software, today announced that Motorola's Semiconductor Products
Sector (SPS) has selected Synopsys' verification platform, including
the VCS(TM) Verilog simulator and Vera(R) testbench automation
solution. This platform enables users to find bugs quickly by using
advanced verification techniques such as constraint-driven random
stimulus generation, assertion-based verification, and formal
analysis, all tightly integrated into a high performance verification
solution.
Under the terms of the multi-year contract, Synopsys' Smart
Verification technology and expert verification consultants will be
deployed into SPS. All of Motorola's semiconductor business groups
plan to adopt the technology, including the market business groups
focused on transportation, standard products, networking and
computing, and wireless and broadband systems.
"As mask costs rise towards the $2-3 million level, it is vital to
thoroughly simulate and verify chips before they are committed to
fabrication," said Bill Walker, senior vice president and general
manager of Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector. "We chose
Synopsys because they offer one of the industry's best-integrated
verification solutions and expert design services."
"Motorola needs to deploy integrated best-in-class functional
verification solutions to address the exponential growth of the
verification dilemma," said Franz Fink, general manager,
Transportation and Standard Products -- 32Bit Embedded Division.
"Based on our benchmarks and technical assessments, we came to the
conclusion that the capabilities of the VCS and Vera tools were an
ideal match for our needs. Synopsys has a strong technology and
strategic roadmap, including SystemVerilog, a unified design and
verification platform tightly integrated with an easily understood
language to help us create rich testbenches for our complex designs."
Synopsys believes that partnering with industry leaders like
Motorola for next-generation technology development will address the
future needs of assertion-based verification. Motorola has extensive
experience in verification with strong in-house technology that,
together with Synopsys' expertise and solutions, can be leveraged to
deliver the most advanced verification technologies to the Motorola
design community.
"Motorola's move to standardize on VCS and Vera is driven by the
need to address their growing verification challenges with a tightly
integrated verification platform," said Aart de Geus, chairman and
CEO, Synopsys, Inc. "Synopsys' investment in its core verification
technologies, along with its leadership in defining the SystemVerilog
standard, accelerates the next-generation design and verification
language and methodologies for the design community."
